BRIGHTON DEMO 2 NOVEMBER 2013

Matthew Kershaw, the Trust Special Administrator who recommended the downgrading of Lewisham A & E, maternity services and acute care services is at it again. Now Kershaw has been promoted to Chief Executive of Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals and they are facing Kershaw’s nasty hammer. The Save Lewisham Hospital Campaign stands shoulder to shoulder with residents using Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals in their campaign to stop Kershaw.

The GMB called a demonstration in Brighton on Saturday 2 November in protest against the plans of their new CEO Matthew Kershaw to privatise all non ward based services at Brighton and Sussex Hospitals. The SLHCtook a big crowd of supporters from Lewisham to support the fight against Kershaw’s cuts.

Kershaw was the Trust Special Administrator for South London Healthcare Trust and in that role showed no interest in or concern for the views of the people and clinicians of Lewisham when proposing the destruction of Lewisham Hospital. He has now moved on to Brighton and is clearly carrying on in the same vein, impervious to the concerns of local residents, service users and staff.

Save Lewisham Hospital Campaign Chair Louise Irvine spoke at the rally on behalf of the campaign, extending the solidarity of our campaign to the people of Brighton.
